Dismantling Dinner

Dinner, who needs it anyway?  Seriously though, what’s our obsession with super-focused, matchy-matchy, uber-meals?  Big protein, bigger carbs, one (cooked) veggie, and maybe a salad.  In the Casa de SuperMax we occasionally cook like that because it can feel good to have a nice, big pasta meal, for instance.  These days however we most often cobble together what a friend aptly called a snack dinner.  The kids have silicone “bento” plates where each spot features at least one superfood.  This is Max’s favorite bento: sauteed tofu, corn on the cob, buckwheat soba noodles, cucumbers, raw peppers, blanched broccoli,  and blanched green beans.  The kids love the little treasures in each compartment and I don’t have to worry about some master meal.  It helps us get amazing variety into their diets, plenty of veggies, and then fruit for dessert.  Try it!  Do away with dinner and nosh instead.  Let us know if you try it out.  We’re sold.

I think that’s my way to make dinner. If only mine would cooperate as well as yours. It’s how I eat for the most part though. I do think I’ll up my super foods per this post. :-)

Love it! Since I’m not a big cook, this is the way I like to put meals together!
